the final countdown

You've heard that song The Final Countdown written by Joey Tempest. Well, that's how I feel. School started back for me today and this is the last semester of my library program. After April 30, I will be a certified media specialist. This has been a life-long dream for me. I remember, as a child, finding solace in the library and the reverence that I felt when I walked into that huge media center at Pine Ridge Elementary in Cayce, SC. I fell in love with Judy Blume, Beverly Cleary, Trixie Belden, and so many others there as I soaked up all of the words I could possibly read.

When we left that place of comfort where I had been for the first five years of my school life (kindergarten was not mandatory and I went to a private one), I once again found solace in the library during lunch where I would hang out so that I wouldn't have to eat in the lunchroom by myself because I didn't know anyone. I instead found myself in places like Paris, Venice, and Olympus. I just loved to read!

I still love to read, and I still have a love affair with the library. It's one of my most favorite places in the world and generally, my kids and I are on a first name basis with the local librarian. For me, a librarian is the keeper of the key. She/he holds that key for kids like me, who need to lose themselves in another world for a variety of reasons. I am very blessed to have had this opportunity. I know I will inspire the next generation to love reading and technology--since really, that's what it is all about these days.

Some think that the library and books will become obsolete. I don't. I do think though that I may try a kindle knowing that I can keep a multitude of books on that thing and not have to dust them which will be heavenly!

So, the final countdown is on.....................I'm ready to blast off to Venus or wherever the books may take me!!

The Final Countdown

We're leaving together
But still it's farewell
And maybe we'll come back
To earth, who can tell?
We're leaving ground
Will things ever be the same?

It's the final countdown
The final countdown

We're heading for Venus and still we stand tall
Cause maybe they've seen us, and welcome us all, yea
With so many light years to go and things to be found
(To be found)
I'm sure that we'll all miss her so

It's the final countdown
The final countdown
